This Christmas at St. Matthew’s, we are taking part in Operation Christmas Child. This is a project run by a Christian charity, Samaritan’s Purse, which aims to show God’s love in a tangible way. They do this by sending shoeboxes full of Christmas presents to children in disadvantaged countries. This shoebox will be the only present they receive, and they will treasure it and its contents throughout the year.
We are partnering with some of our local schools in Bayswater for this project. They are going to pack their own shoeboxes to be sent all over the world!
How can you get involved?
You can pack your own shoebox! Just follow these four simple steps
- Prepare your shoebox
Find a shoebox, wrap it in colourful wrapping paper, and stick a label (see leaflet) on it saying who you are packing the box for.
- Pack your shoebox
Fill your shoebox with Christmas presents suitable for the age and gender you have chosen. If you’re stuck for ideas, try here.
- Make a project donation
It costs a lot to get these shoeboxes out, so Operation Christmas Child suggest make a donation towards the cost of the transit costs.
- Drop your box off
We will be collecting boxes at St. Matthew’s until the 30th November. You can bring it to any church service or event, or get in touch to arrange to drop it off at some other time.
- Unfortunately you don’t get to see step 5, but your box will now bring joy to a child somewhere in the world.
