Locality

The parish of St. Matthew's covers a small area of Bayswater (see map, Appendix A) between Notting Hill Gate and Paddington in the City of Westminster. It is bordered on the south side by Kensington Gardens, to the north by Westbourne Grove, the east by Queensway, the west by Ossington Street and Hereford Road. St. Matthew's is in the south west corner of the Westminster (Paddington) Deanery.  It is in the Archdeaconry of Charing Cross and the Diocese of London.

Bayswater is a very popular tourist destination. The parish includes several embassies. Hotels range from four star to student hostels. Restaurants, shops and leisure facilities of every kind abound.

St. Matthew's is a truly multicultural parish, reflecting London in all its historic diversity, with large Greek, Arab, Brazilian and Chinese communities all of whom are reflected in the diversity of shops and restaurants.
