Lent is the period of 40 days which comes before Easter in the Christian calendar beginning on Ash Wednesday which this year falls on 22nd February. 
We were delighted to welcome two new members of our congregation to St Matthew’s in January.

A great friend of St Matthew’s Bayswater, the Rev Canon Dr James Rosenthal, affectionately known as Father Jim, was installed as Parish Priest at St Nicholas-at-Wade.

More than 100 people thronged the candlelit church on Sunday 18th December for this year's Festival of Lessons & Carols.

On Sunday 11th December we said an emotional farewell to Gary Eyre who has been Director of Music at St Matthew’s for 27 years. During this time Gary, a distinguished composer, has constantly explored new music in settings for anthems, hymns and psalms. 
This year’s Christmas Market was a resounding success, raising £1,352, with many stalls reporting increases of more than 60% on the year. Last year’s total was £991 but we had had to contend with snow and one of the coldest days in the winter.
Sunday 4th December marked a very special occasion for the Milligan Howes family, with two of their children being christened, and for Mr Paul Gray, a stalwart member of the congregation, who was celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of his Confirmation.

We are delighted that the Revd Jennie Hogan will be officiating at all our Christmas services this year, beginning with the Carol Service on Sunday, 18th December

With the help of God and the support of both parishes, St Matthew’s and St Stephen’s (our Westbourne Park neighbours) are working jointly on a proposal for a way ahead in the near future.

Calling all Choristers, we're looking for alto, tenor and bass voices to join our choir.
The final shortlisted candidates for the post Vicar of St Matthew’s were invited to visit the church and parish on 21st July before their interviews the following day.

We were delighted to welcome the Revd Nadim Nassar to lead our 11.00am Choral Eucharist service. Nadim is the Director and co-founder of the Awareness Foundation and co-author of the Awareness Course.

The special retiring collection taken on Sunday 17th July for famine relief in the Horn of Africa raised £133.  Many thanks to all who contributed.
The Sunday School was delighted to welcome so many friends and members of the congregation to their summer party in the Church Room and Vicarage Garden on 10th July.

We were delighted to welcome back Canon Ben Enwuchola, Chaplain to the Nigerian Community, who conducted our 11.00am Choral Communion Service and a Christening.
Canon Jim, Churchwarden Betty Kasozi-Batende and several communicants of St Matthew's went to one of the local pubs for Easter Lunch and received a great surprise. 
We were delighted that once again the Revd Canon Dr James Rosenthal conducted our major Passiontide services including of course, the main Easter Day Eucharist service.
We are delighted that the Revd Canon Dr James Rosenthal will once again be taking our major Sunday services through Passiontide.
The Lent Group continues to meet every Wednesday evening during Lent to read together and discuss the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent Book for 2011.

We were delighted to welcome the Bishop of London, the Rt. Revd. Richard Chartres, to officiate at Choral Communion on Sunday, 20th February.
We had great pleasure in being joined at Choral Communion by the Arundel School Girls' Choir, on tour from Harare, Zimbabwe, who sang with our choir and gladdened our hearts with their wonderful voices, under the guidance of their music director, Meg MacKenzie.

We were delighted to welcome St Nicholas, pictured here with our Boy Bishop, to celebrate the great tradition of gift-giving and showing care and concern for others.

An evening of pure entertainment - including a surprise guest appearance by a jazz legend - was held to raise funds to erect a statue to Mary Seacole, the Jamaican nurse best known for her involvement in the Crimea War.
