A wonderful evening of pure entertainment was held to raise funds to erect a statue to commemorate Mary Seacole, the Jamaican nurse best known for her involvement in the Crimea War.  At the end of the first half there was a surprise appearance by jazz legend, Courtney Pine, with an amazing three piece backing band. They performed three numbers which were not only world class but used the acoustic of the church to perfection.  He also paid a lovely tribute to the evening's organiser, Laurie Phillpotts, and we felt that any parish church in which Courtney Pine plays is blessed!
