23 Aug 11 Can You Sing?
Music is a very important feature at St Matthew's, embracing a wide range of styles and periods. We have an excellent Choir which sings at the 11.00am Sunday Services as well as Festivals and Holy Days. Our Director of Music, a distinguished composer himself, constantly explores new music in settings for anthems, hymns and psalms.

We are now seeking Choristers to take the place of those who are leaving us to go to university this autumn and we would be delighted to hear from experienced singers, especially alto, tenor and bass voices. You must have a good standard of sight reading and be able to commit to fairly regular attendance each Sunday. Sessions start with Choir Practice in the Choir Vestry at 10.15am followed by a service at 11.00am which usually ends around 12 noon – 12.15pm, so a maximum of two hours. The choir wears cassocks and surplices which are provided free of charge.

A small honorarium is paid for singing at the major festivals, plus weddings, funerals, memorial services etc otherwise we rely on voluntary service. However, in return you will have the opportunity to sing choral music of a very high standard with an interesting, rewarding and sometimes challenging repertoire.
