- Do you long for a bit more community in London?
- Are you wanting to be a member of a church but are always away or busy at weekends?
- Are you baptised but have doubts or questions about the Christian faith?
- Do you want to get to know people in the area, explore the Christian faith, or just try to find a bit of space in the hectic pace of London?
Having listened and observed the needs of local people in Bayswater we are now seeking to offer a new way of doing church for the 21st century. Sunday church still suits some but for many their life patterns and priorities just don’t mesh well with established patterns of church life.
At ekklesia we hope to offer you a place to explore the Christian faith as well as to belong to a church community that is non-judgemental and open to the work of God in our day-to-day lives.
Despite the rapid advances of our culture, we believe passionately that it is possible to hold a Christian faith in today’s high-tech Internet age.
We also think that life in London, whilst exciting and stimulating, can also be far too frantic and often somewhat lonely and cold.
We hope that ekklesia will be a place that helps us to meet some of todays challenges in 21st century London.
So what can you expect? Each evening will revolve around three words.
Our evenings at ekklesia will begin with hot food from 7.15; a chance to relax and unwind a little after no doubt a busy day. We are calling this the body section of the evening.
At 8.15 we move on to learn together as we explore an aspect of the Christian faith. Topics will vary from, how faith affects our work, to hearing a Christian speak of their experience of faith, to the work of a Christian charity, to considering some light theology together. We hope it will never be dull and always relevant. We are calling this the mind section of the evening.
At 9.15 we move on to the soul section when, those who want to, are invited to stay to engage in a short act of worship. Some weeks we will share Holy Communion. Other weeks we shall simply have a service of prayer and space. The aim is to leave with our souls refreshed as we seek an encounter with God. We are calling this the soul section of the evening.
There is no need to stay for more than one section, or you may want to stay for all three. It’s up to you.
Although subsidised, to cover some of our costs in providing hot food and drink, we would ask that you please bring £5.
Being a ‘school night’ ekklesia evenings will be finished by 9.45 to give us all the chance to get home in good time.
Whether you are a runner or a couch potato, a banker or a lawyer, a teacher or a student, divorced or single, young or old, fulfilled or lonely, we hope that you will consider joining us in this exciting new place of community, discovery, and spiritual refreshment.
